[IN]SECURE DIVISION

THE PRECARIOUSNESS OF MATERIALS IN CONTEXT

The Japanese art form of Kintsugi places value on the seams of broken pottery through a mending process where gold is used to join the opposing sides. The idea of the golden seam is what I refer to as the urban scar that is inevitable with the building of walls across global borders.

This final degree project aims to be an instigator of cultural change by proposing an alternative definition of how space is divided. This division will be the introduction of a structure built along the United States and Mexico border. The border region will become a point of investigation into the future effects of cultural insecurity, material context, and ecological programming.
